Murphy's law strikes again

Murphy’s Law: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong."

In getting our documentation prepared for the coming tax appointment, we had to collect records from our doctor’s offices. The pediatrician, the therapist and the dentist are all places we frequent and spend a lot of money at. So we were confident that a write off would be in order.

We were wrong. Our tax attorney informed us that in order to write off medical and dental expenses, it had to be a much larger amount than we had spent in 2008. Ironic, because much of our income went to pay doctor bills, yet it still was not enough.

We noticed that out of all of our kids, Trenton had been the healthiest all year. In fact, he has not been to the doctor since 2006. I made sure to commend him on his good health, even though it really was not in his control. I told him to keep up the good work. Yesterday, he came into the bedroom with a fever. Today, he is home sick with a throat infection. I told him that he was not allowed to be sick unless it was so bad that he had to be hospitalized and we could use it as a tax write off. He did not see the humor in my comment. I’m not quite sure I was kidding!
